'Spiritual' series: 1990 – 1992

This is a spiritualistic period with a yearning for ‘Light’. For the first time in my paintings, the acrylic medium has come in on paper. Using brush as well as knife I made paintings in smaller size first then got on to larger scale.

I had just resigned from my job with Gemstone Corporation of Pakistan, where I had been designing jewellery for seven years. After working on intricate small scale jewellery designs for so many years, it became a challenge to start painting again on a large format. This was a good opportunity to get acquainted with acrylics too which I had long been wanting to do.
